Diamond Ball Looks with Procreate App

Those who know me well know that art has always been my first love along with basketball, after Christ of course.

As a kid I could always be found with a paper and pen in hand, sketching away. I always enjoyed drawing fashion illustrations because the characters resembled me, slender with long limbs.

I’ve enjoyed sketching and my go to medium has been artistic markers: prismacolor, flex marker, and copic marker to name a few. That is of course, until I learned about the app Procreate for iPad Pro. This technology has been life changing! Instead of traveling with a huge box of markers, my sketchbook, pencils, erasers and pens, all I need is my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil.

The Procreate app brush allows you to create multiple fine tip pens, sketching pencils, and painting brushes from watercolor to acrylic. You can create the illusion of luminance, brightness and shadows. The elements brush allows you to create water, clouds, flames and crystals. The list goes on and the possibilities are endless.

I can create multiple layers, I have access to virtually every color I can think of and then some. Admittedly, I did not like the app when I first tried it, but over time I have gotten used to it. There is so much this app can do, I have not even scratched the surface. Yet, I have a feeling that once I go digital, it will be hard to go back to paper.

I have been experimenting with the app, and decided I would try to recreate a few images of celebrities in attendance at Rihanna’s fourth annual Diamond Ball.

Rihanna was stunning in her giant bow dress and lace body suit designed by Alexis Marilee. Justine Skye was goddess like in a pink Parabal gown, and Sylar Diggins-Smith was absolutely golden in a Jay Godfrey Mirabel gown.

These illustrations have been some of my favorite creations in the app to date, with many more to come in the future.

Have you used procreate app? If so how are you liking it so far? What are your favorite features?

Also, I really liked Rihanna’s, Justine’s and Skylar’s outfits, but there were many other show stoppers, who were your favorite looks? Comment below and I just might illustrate them.
