No Whiter Snow

On our team this year, four girls have January birthdays (this is why we get along so well lol), so we decided to rent a huge cabin for two days and one night to celebrate as a team. It was about an hour drive away from Vologda in the middle of nowhere. Thank goodness my teammates were familiar with the area, because it would have been easy to get lost up there.

The birthday girls!

The birthday girls!

We left for the cabin at night, so I didn't realize the beautiful surroundings until the following morning when my teammates and I decided to go for a mid morning walk. Because we were essentially in the woods, it was extremely peaceful and quiet; our boots squishing in the snow and our voices were the only sounds in the area we heard. The snowfall the night before had coated the leaves of the towering trees in a sparkling white. The contrast of the chocolate brown bark and radiant white, couldn't have been any more beautiful.  It reminded me of gingerbread cookies, when they're frosted with icing (it's the foodie in me). To top it off, the beautiful clear sky made it so bright it was almost blinding. I was truly walking in a winter wonderland! As we walked, leaving our mark in the ground until the next snow fall, we enjoyed each others company talking and occasionally stopping to make snow angels. I've come to realize that sometimes its the simplest of things that can bring the most joy. Experience that winter wonderland was just one of God's many beautiful creations on this earth. Sometimes we just need to take the moment to appreciate the beauty He has created that is all around us.
